Could it have been a Dunnock, they often feed late into the evening.

Nearer to a dunnock than a female robin but the cocked tail of the wren is what sways it for me!

bear in mind though, its body posture would have been different if clinging to a wall, rather than perching, just a thought either bird would have its tail flat to the wall for balance, so tail length would be significant, not the 'cockiness ' wrens have much shorter tails, than a sparrow for instance, dunnocks and robins LOOk similar in length, so we could be down to a choice of 3.......... BUT, snadge wants a wren.

They pick insects off stuff, so it could have been investigating crevisses Snadger, and its size ,and as you say, cocked tail should identify it.

That's interesting SBP.........I know there's an old swallows nest no more than 3 metres from the wall it was clinging to!

can't see why it would complain, i mean, heat light, cosy??? what more does it want, there is even a dead spider trapped in the corner.
