We are generally pretty well off for butterflies here, surrounded by moor, hedges, and lightly managed pasture, but they do seem to hide during the counting period.
I live in a part of the UK with very mild winters. Please take this into account before thinking "if he is sowing those now...."

I too have a plague of Cabbage Whites, but have seen a few other species away from the village.

We had one Red Admiral, 4 Tortoiseshells and a dozen Whites, though not all the Whites lasted the day as they were on my broccoli.

Tried to use the website, but gave up as I couldn't add anything to it.

I catch the whites and squeeze them just enough to stop them flying and give them to the hens.

You might know the day after the count our garden is awash with butterflies including the first Peacock of the year, oh well kinda shows statistics aren't very accurate.

We had loads in our garden yesterday too - mostly painted ladies , Red Admirals, small whites and Meadow browns.
I think the warmer weather has brought them out.
The particularly loved the lavender and marjoram flowers.
