Owls

Just though I'd share some pics of the owl family that occupied the trees at the bottom of the garden last year.

So far, no sign of them this year, and the same tree now has a sparrowhawk family in residence, so I'm not too hopeful they will return this year. I think we first started hearing them around Mid May.

They are gorgeous! Our friend farms at the other end of the village and has barn owls nesting every year in his big barn. A local chap comes to ring the young ones later on in the season and it's so exciting to see them. I was surprised when I first saw the babies how BIG they are.

We have owls, don't know what sort.
They live next door about 50 yards away and fly across our garden to an empty house next door the other way.
So far no large enough pics but I get a new camera in a couple of days with a 10x zoom. Hope to see them better.

We have an owl that sits somewhere in our garden at night. He screeches and "twoo's", but never seems to "twit". From looking at bird books etc I think that it may be a tawny owl, but as my garden has lots of trees for him to hide in I've never seen him. However, I did spot an owl in a tree futher down the road when coming home late one evening and got very excited! OH thought I was mad!
