Just found a newt in pot!

Evening all-

I was just tidying up garden after all day planting, moving stuff etc. and I pulled out a big weed from a pot and a newt jumped out. V. sleepy - I think I woke him from hibernation. He's back in pot now - I've put pot in loosely tied plastic bag cos I want to show OH when he comes in. It hasn't got an orange spotty tummy like some I've seen before. Think it might be female.

Most newts are protected species. The common newt is brown. U lucky devil

For the lat two years in about July I have seen just the one newt in my pond. I would love more, but don't know what more I can do to get them to 'move in'
Lady next door has just found one in her pond- it was very small and pale almost!
I would so love to have a pond full of newts!
Pond is in a somewhat shaded site does that matter?

Last weekend we had a builder in to dig up our concrete patio to put a water pipe in and he found over 20 newts! He kept them in a bucket to show us and then we placed them near our pond. They were all of different sizes and i think most of them had yellow spotted stomachs I dont think he expected to find that when he dug the concrete up
