Netting blackbirds seems a bit extreme...

Birds have been my main problem this year - looks like I'll need to get a fruit cage put up for next year.

I havnt seen a sparrow in my garden at all this year.
We seem to be I plagued with Robin's.
Cant leave the back door open or they are in.
Cant leave anything uncovered or they will have that as well.
We never had this problem before.
They are fearless, and come right up to me and I to the greenhouse.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Well send them to me and I will swap you a few sparrows as I haven't got a single Robin at all except for the odd visit in winter.

You know Marb.....hats off to you...you are clearly providing a micro climate for a selection of species which may be extinct in years to come!
Maybe it might prove more productive to select the best performing fruit and veg...plus a few others which might do better during a very dry/exceptionally cold/wet period ...as back up?
It's taken me 12 years to realise that some things I could grow when we lived in Cheshire really won't do well here.
I've tried French varieties hoping they would fair better...nah...
So...I buy all my caulies now, and many other well loved fruit and veg I've struggled with from the local organic shop
Nope...it's not giving in...it just keeps my sanity!
