Beans & Climbers?

I�ve got an arch to build (since November) and already have a Honeysuckle and Jasmine to grow (as if) up it.

Anybody know if theres a reason why I can�t grow runners or frenchies up it as well this year so the arch isn�t so bald looking? They would be sharing the same soil.

should work OK - best to put some flat stones or similar over the roots of the honeysuckle, as they resent them being overheated, being naturally a woodland plant.

I've grown runner beans up my arch. They prefer to climb something fairly thin like a bamboo cane rather than a thick wooden arch, so if your arch is a wooden one you may find it better to tie in canes or string to the arch to help the beans to get a grip. the metal ones made essentially of tubular metal would be much easier for beans to climb.

I grew beans up a rose arch one time. i innocently thought the beans would hang down under the arch and be easy to find and pick. What actually happened was that the beans grew lots of leaves over the top of the arch, and the flower stalks grew up through and above them, so most of the beans were on the TOP of the arch. Had to use a step ladder to pick them.....

I'm nearly classed as a dwarf Nick so any giants eyeing up my bits is going to be bit on the welly.

I don't think my vegetable husbandry will ever mean that my beans etc will grow that big. I'm going to have a go though.
