Best suppliers?

Hello everyone. I�ve been here for a while as there have been hiccups and delays getting a wheelchair raised garden built by my housing association. At last they are building it next month so I�m very excited and raring to go.
I�ve been browsing seed/plant suppliers. I would be very grateful if you experienced folks could tell me who sell the best quality online plants/seeds etc? I doubt my local garden centre will sell everything I intend to grow, so it would be good to source what I want now.

What's on your shopping list, how much space do you have and where are you based, then once you have made the right selection have a look at the advertisers in the magazine and browse their websites. I don't buy all my seed from the same supplier, some seem to specialise and lead in their field, for example if you want to grow organically or if you fancy growing show sized veg. The major suppliers all have good products, but there are a few smaller suppliers who have things like Heritage varieties that can offer better flavour.

Hi burnie. I haven�t made up my mind 100% but some of the things I�m sure of is..

Jerusalem artichokes
Aubergine
Onions
Strawberries

My raised bed area will be 5ft x 13ft plus I have a large area at one end which I can grow thing in bags on the floor with my husbands help.

Brilliant news about your raised bed, Wheelie. Just in time for the new growing season. I wouldn't plant Jerusalem Artichokes in a raised bed as they take quite a lot of digging out at the end of the season. If one little tuber is left in the soil, it grows back the next year and spreads. They also grow tall so would overshadow the smaller veggies.
JAs may be OK in a big pot. Maybe someone here can advise you.

Thanks veggie. You are quite right. I was thinking of growing them in a couple of potato grow bags up against a fence. I read somewhere they can grow to 10ft. No good for my raised bed.

Nice one Wheelie. We used to grow JA's successfully in three compost bags against a wall.

Top marks to your Housing Association for creating an area you can cultivate from your wheelchair. From your list, most of what you intend to grow is likely to be available from local Garden Centres who will in all probability stock seeds from Suttons, Mr Fothergills, DT Brown etc and also Thomson and Morgan(my preferred seed supplier. Bit more expensive but excellent quality and results).

Thanks Mrbones and plotter.. yes I was was just browsing the housing association website for something totally unrelated and came across a page asking residents to submit their good ideas and if they like it they would do it. Sooo, I thought nothing ventured, nothing gained and sent them and email. I nearly fell out of my wheelchair in shock when they phoned and asked to meet me. Not only am I getting a lovely big wheelchair bed, but they are putting down accessible paving everywhere. I’m very excited.
