Seed sowing thread 2018

My last go at bulb fennel growing, sowed the seeds last week, no show yet.

After a total fail with my cell sown dwarf French beans, I decided on one last ditch attempt - I took two half-used, old packets of seed (Delinel and Stanley), mixed them up, threw them on a spare patch of ground and raked them in. Gave them a thorough soaking and we'll see what, if anything, happens. I felt like I was channelling VC just for a moment.

If everyone lets out their inner VC, I predict a reign of chaos and the end of days - but with a lot of happy people about :-)

BTW I reckon your broadcast beans will do fine as long as you can give them some water - ideal weather for them currently.

Thanks, Nick. My expectations are low, as only one of twelve cell sown seeds germinated... the seeds are two or three years old.

You'll all be converts soon.
I did something similar earlier this year. Scraped out a little trench, threw in some very old beans, gave them some water and covered them over. Then forgot about them.
The result - there are a few beans climbing up the wire fence. Thought they were weeds initially/ So it does work

SP, surely by now you have the entire island of Mull under cultivation. Where do you find space to grow so many seeds?

Yesterday I sowed swedes ‘helenor’ & ‘best of all’ & two varieties of lettuce ‘marvel of four seasons’ & ‘gustav’s salad’.

Sowed two large containers of Rocket (50p in wyvale seed sale,popped in there today what a bargain!)

Giant Winter spinach, in modules but have decided to put the rest straight into the ground tomorrow to hedge my bets...

White radishes I found in Wilkos. Label said you could sow til August, but for 25p I thought it was worth chancing it on 2nd September
