Should you ever fertilise a bed for carrots?

Did lifting the carrots have any impact on the brassicas? I'm intrigued...

Grow mine surrounded by a carrot net - pulled some yesterday - just managed to grab them before the dog - we had not manured the ground and they really are good - much better than the ones in the tunnel.
