Golden Bear and white rot success

Dead chuffed to have the first decent crop of onions on our current plot. We usually lose about 50% to white rot but this year grew Golden Bear from seed and out of 120 only lost two. It's possible the one bed is less contaminated plus the dry weather might have helped but rot still claimed half the Red Baron nearby.
GB is marketed as resistant to downy mildew but I read it has an increasing reputation as having some white rot resistance too. Will definitely be trying it again next year.

I bought some to try this year, and promptly forgot about them! If they really do make that much difference I must remember to sow them next year. Someone please remind me

Do you grow much garlic?

I had sucess with GB a few years back on white riot infested land. The problem then was that because they were F1's the seed was very expensive and it wasn't economically viable for me.
Luckily the plot I am now on has no white rot whatsoever so I can utilise the much cheaper Japanese overwintering and the spring sown onion sets to good effect.

Do you grow much garlic?

We grew loads of garlic this year, normally, like the onions we lose about half to rot but dry conditions helped keep it at bay and we lifted early just as it started to take hold. There's a bit about it here.

We also pulled the elephant garlic early but it was already infected and rot started to grow as the bulbs dried so they were separated into individual cloves and dipped in malt vinegar to kill it. They should store now and will still make viable seed for replanting.
