  • later than usual planting tomatoes and chillis

I was a bit behind this year with my tomatoes and chillis,

they are still in small pots ready to be potted on, do I still have time to get them planted?

    Thanks very much

I don't grow chilis so I don't know about those, but I still have some tomato plants in small pots which will be planted out soon. Mine are going out side in the hope of getting a couple of trusses of fruit (they are sideshoots that I rooted as insurance) but you may get more if you are putting them in a greenhouse.

As its not been a good year so far we may get a better back end, which IMO would mean the toms would be OK and the chillies a maybe.

Postdustbins, your tomatoes should be fine but your chillis may need a longer growing season.
Having said that, you can always overwinter them and have a really early crop next year.
As usual, its all down to the weather.

That's great thanks, last years went really well, but I have not had as much time as I would have liked this year to get a head start :-)

I planted out my Italian bought tom seeds and they have grown at a good rate, sown in mid May, they are now 6ins plus and seem settled and happy, I cant wait to see how good they taste, they do seem to have more vigour than our home bought seeds, we shall see..
