  • Just going to have a quiet day pottering in the garden if it doesn't get too nippy out there.
Dead heading daffs is going to be the one thing I really must do as we have literally hundreds.

    • so this weekend starts Friday...

Go through the "April" seed box and find what I want to grow this year while having Friday brunch then retire to the glass house to start sowing
Consider last weeks undone tasks and...
      put up the bean supports
fill some containers with compost etc. for carrots, mooli radish, Rapini broc and Repot last years mint - Bowles green, spearmint and chocolate
Choose this weekends play list, mellow up with some Ry Cooder and sing along to the beach boys?
check everything growing undercover and water/weed if necessary (repeat every weekend!)
Unwrap the fleece from last week.
sit and have a cup of tea while gazing into the pond to spot the newts ( another recurring theme)
Sow herbs; Basils, parsley, dill, coriander, savory
Sow flowers; tagetes (yellow, golden and orange) pot marigolds, dianthus, sweet-pea and nasturtiums (climbing and bush.)
Pot on peppers, toms squash, cues etc time to move into the glasshouse from the dining room.
delegate cleaning of dining room to him indoors. We have an equal opp. partnership. I make mess, he cleans
Strim the remaining patch of grass I haven't turned into veg and flower beds (yet!)
Sow lettuce and kale etc into the raised bed and put the anti cat poop netting around.
Why is it that I leave a nice untouched wildlife area and the cats and/or foxes want to scratch up the new seedlings?!!!

Let you know after the weekend how much I got done

              • It's only Monday and if I can get my essay done I might get to do some seed sowing in the week. So, I'm planning quietly in my head for the weekend instead.

I've asked around on Facebook for local places where wild garlic grows, and stunned with the response of how many areas, so I'm off picking the stuff at the weekend, with the dog in tow!

I have, at the back of my new plot a shaded area under a couple of trees. There's also rather large brambles, which I am intending to cut back completely and possibly dig up. I'm just wondering what the law says about pulling up roots and all with wild garlic, to grow on on the allotment. Do you know?

The wildest area where they grow is a little wooded area that is very popular with dog walkers, and apparently it's overrun by wild garlic.

                • so this weekend starts Friday... update

well got last weekends jobs done except...
left fleece on, and added more as expecting cold drops Wednesday -Friday this week.

Didn't strim the grass (again) leaving it for the insects that are overwintering there. That is my excuse anyway.

Forgot to charge up my MP3 player so no soundtrack except a few dozen starlings at the bird feeders. Introducing a Niger seed feeder maybe a mistake, but never managed to get thistles to grow in my clay soil when I buy expensive plants/seeds. That said I now have a pair of Goldfinch visiting But now they are here they seem to enjoy the peanuts more!!!?

Brunch, after 2 years of waiting my first asparagus spear served with bacon, English muffin, poached egg and and hollandaise (Pacific Purple for those interested.) 2nd spear only 5 cm so maybe next weekend?

Also sorted out fleece to cover strawberry plants as frost was (correctly) forecast.

As predicted, yesterday was rather busy. What should have been a half hour job managed to take up most of the day and there was little time left for gardening.

Harvest lettuce, carrots, brokali - no, but picked some spinach

Rather restricted as to what I could really do as a parcel was due to arrive in the afternoon (it didn't). I therefore spent some time in the front garden and straightened about half of the long lawn edge which is a tedious job as the grass grows over the edging strip and emerges in amongst the perennials. More to do.

                        No gardening time today.
