  • Sweet corn

Quick question please. I planted some corn in little modules last week, they are outside in one of those plastic greenhouses, nothing happening as yet, should I bring them inside and put on sunny windowsill? I'm in Kent, but it is a bit chilly again!

    Thanks

corn can take a week germinate under ideal condition and as long as 3 weeks in cool soil germinate.
if soil is to wet, damp, and too cool the seed will rot.

I sowed mine about a week ago in my summerhouse and they are up today!

I germinate mine indoors on the sunniest windowsills, yes I'd bring them in for the warmth, but you probably can leave them outside too if you want to although I never have?

I put mine inside folded over kitchen roll on a large plate, I pour a bit of warm water to wet them then I put them on a sunny windowsill, they start to shoot very quickly, but having had to use raised beds I have given them a miss in favour of some nice caulies..

I was planning to sow mine in modules this weekend - probably indoors vs unheated GH - if weatherhad been like last weekend then more likely GH. They'll probably get going quicker inside IMHO

Sweetcorn duly planted in the blowaway, inside the greenhouse where it was 5 degrees last night.

Thinking about it I believe I adopted the 'BUFFS Methodology' last year. This led to increased germination rates and was judged a success. I shall therefore repeat the aforementioned course of action tomorrow all being well (and as Mrs Balders is taking my car to 'head up country' for most of the week I shall get away with placing the seeds / looroll paper / dish combo on the kitchen windowsill)! Huzzah!
