Snapper Tomatoes

I have a packet of Mr F's Snapper tomato seeds (sow by 2007)
No pic on the packet but described as
"Outstanding open-pollinated British bred indeterminate variety that produces an abundance of rich coloured baby plum/grape sized fruits that are suitable for growing outdoors as well as in glasshouse/polytunnel. Has a thick skin with a high resistance to bruising, excellent flavoured - superb eaten whole or sliced in salads/sandwiches.
10 seeds."

Can't find any info about this variety. There's one called WhipperSnapper but that's it.

Has anyone heard of Snapper?

While I'm here, delving in my old seed boxes - has anyone tried Taxi aka Yellow Taxi - 'cos its yellow. These seeds are sow by 1997

Yellow Pygmy (2011)

and, from Burke's backyard, Australia -
Stuffed tomatoes - Burke's Backyard (2009)

Prosperity - red, bush variety with clusters of smallish fruit
Yellow Oxheart - tall staking type with large fruit
Yellow Stuffing - bush variety with medium sized fruit (? Yellow Stuffer)
College Challenger - red, tall staking type with large round fruit

I've heard of Taxi. American as far as I can remember and supposed to be a good'un. Just let me check.

Ok, after a quick bit of googling I now know that it's an early fruiting bush tomato, good for short seasons and cooler climates. Yellow fruits 4-6 ounces or Baseball size. Sweet, low acid flavour.

It's stocked by a number of US seed companies. Here's one of them: http://www.westcoastseeds.com/shop/v...-tomato-seeds/

(Although Tatiana's Tomatobase disagrees with all the rest and says "2 oz yellow round fruit, very good tangy flavor". But maybe that wasn't the real thing.)

The seeds I have were sold by Unwins in 1996 for 20p if you bought 4 other packets. Well, I just had to buy them!
"An outstandingly bright Tomato you cannot miss! The large vivid yellow fruits are produced in abundance on attractive bushy plants to give asses of tasty juicy fruits that spice up salads and all types of cookery."
They look more 2oz than baseball size.

I've no idea what size a baseball is. Except about the same as a 4-6 oz tomato. And it's so long since I weighed anything in ounces that I don't really know how big that is either.

HERE'S a thought to lift the gloom of winter and anticipate the taste of summer: 1996 is the Year of the Tomato. It has been so designated by the seed merchants Unwins, to mark the 400th anniversary of the introduction into Britain of our most popular home-grown vegetable (or fruit, for the pedantic)..................
For a while the tomato was known as pomo d'oro, golden apple, because the first varieties were closer to yellow than red. Today the yellow tomato is coming back into favour: to celebrate the anniversary Unwins are promoting a new bush variety called Taxi, the colour of a New York cab.
