Just been planting a ton of different flower and veg seeds into newspaper tubes and was going so well until I forgot to put the labels into two sets of seeds.

You probably heard me shouting "I don't believe it....." after I realised that I'm maybe going to have a load of flowers growing under my brassica netting among the rest of the brassicas, and some cabbages in my flower beds.

.... or I've put the labels in the correct container and I won't look a plonker to my lottie neighbors

Oh well guess I'm gonna have to hope for the best.

I think you'll be able to recognise the brassica seedlings when they germinate. Their seed leaves are quite distinctive.

How about having those 'joint' labels and give us the fun of guessing their ID when they seedlings appear?

Ha, I did those 6 plastic cell plantings of all my brassicas last year (2 to a cell) and after germination moved them onto the drive to harden off during the day. Grandson visited and kindly pulled all the labels my secretery had penciled up! I still had all the plants and could plant in like rows, but no idea which was which for the next few months.

I thought it was only me that's done that this year. My excuse is that I was poorly. The things I have mixed up are my pumpkins, squashes and marrows.
Think I am just going put them in the same area and wing it if people ask me what I have got growing.

Oh gawd, I have done that before especially when really busy and trying to fit too much into a day.

So far touch wood I haven't. I try to write out all the labels first, then prick out a tray at a time.

Just pretend you're trying out the original cottage gardening approach, mixing flowers and veg together . And yes, I constantly screech 'I don't believe it'... in fact, I've got several batches of seeds at present with no labels / illegible labels, it happens every year, no matter how careful I think I'm being

I find that most of the "permanent" or "waterproof" pens that you can buy for writing on plant labels tend to wash off in the rain. While the old labels I've kept form 20 years ago are still going strong, the newer ones are almost completely clean, which is not helpful when you go to harvest a bucket of potatoes and can't remember if it is Charlotte or Desiree!
