Tall Pea varieties

I like good old reliable Hurst Greenshaft, which grew to about 6ft last year.

Lord Leicester grew well for me last year. I kept having to nip the tops back, I wouldn't have been able to reach the top otherwise.

I am looking for a tall Pea variety, can anyone make a recommendation please?

My absolute favourite as a sweet shelling pea raw, or when they get they chance to be cooked, are Alderman. Great production as well as taste, the pods are easy to open and they are just stuffed with peas inside the quite long pods. But there are so many more excellent varieties.

What type of eating peas do you like?

Ne Plus Ultra is a good old variety featured in the Victorian Kitchen Garden. I grew Telephone last year which did well but I think I may revert to Ne Plus Ultra this year.

I'm trying one for the first time this year, supposed to grow up to 3 metres, it's called "Table Talk". Not a lot to be found on't t'interent though.

I'm looking to try Boddingtons Soup Pea, Serpette Guilloteau, Lord Leicester and Champion of England. Never grown any tall peas before but it's worth a go.

I grew Champion of England for the first time last year. They were good and I saved seed to grow them again this.
