How many spuds ?

Am i right in thinking that you don't really need to "chit" main crop spuds?

The trial said there was no need for maincrop, but you get earlier earlies if you do chit.

Scoot not sure about the chitting of potatoes. However, if you find a way to stop them developing shoots before mid March I would be very much appreciative. I have bought my first earlies and they have already started!

I just wait until March and get the organic spuds from the shop lol. Chit them and hoy them in in April.

Never failed. I don't see the attraction of these seed spuds.

I got my seed potatoes last night from Home Bargains - they were doing small bags of 8 for 79p, so I thought I would get a few different varieties.

Arran pilot - 1st
Wilja -2nd
Maris peer - 2nd or xmas
Charlotte - 2nd or xmas
Desiree - main

may keep them outside in the woodshed for a while yet as we usually have late frosts (2nd week in may) and don't want them sprouting to early as they already have a few small sprouts on now.

That's fine if they sell the variety of potato you'd like to grow. Most seed potato suppliers have a wider choice than the average supermarket/ shop.
