What I did today - 2016

Went down late so didn't do much.
Planted out allium in the perennial bed.

Picked the courgettes (this took up most of the time), some beans, toms, sweet peppers.

My cucamelons now have fruit and some of them are ready so I got my first ever harvest of cucamelons.

Filled the water butts in the greenhouse.

That's about it.

I didn't feel like grappling with the clay-pretending-to-be-concrete down at the allotment today, so I left it alone and went to play golf instead. The ball runs miles on the fairways at the moment!
We've rain forecast for the weekend so I should be able to get more done next week.

Mainly had fun with family, but watered greenhouse, moved late sown dfb in pots into gh hoping for a late crop & failed to sow winter spinach yet again!

Looked through seed catalogues online for next year & listened in astonishment to OH talking about creating extra under cover growing space

Went to work this morning, had great fun doing our window a la British Bake off
Had a yellow stickered lasagne for tea and picked a very nicely formed little gem lettuce and half a dozen sun gold toms, so sweet. All very tasty and so fresh
Chilly earlier, but hoping it will pick up a bit tomorrow

Not done much because work gets in the way. But did feed all my chilli's, tomatoes, pumpkins and melon.

Another bucket load of horse muck collected just now out of the local allotment field. That's 60ltrs worth now. Aiming for 200ltrs to dig in to the garden once everything is out.

Pruned my sisters tree with a pole chainsaw, rest to go at a later date when I can borrow a bigger chainsaw

Managed to do the rest of the tree with the pole chainsaw after watching a couple of youtube videos

Finally sowed winter spinach plus pak choi, turnip greens, winter lettuce, & lambs lettuce. Privked out Nero di toscana kale for gh for winter. Finally found old tiles to put squash on but didn't actually do it. Helped OH tackle massive blackthorn /blackberry thicket. Need to feed greenhouse plants later

Yesterday I sowed a packet of mixed perennials into a large wooden seed tray. Looking at the label there was about 30 different perennials included.
I sowed a similar (FREE)packet last year and have a few perennials in my garden, but have no idea what they are. One is very much like a mullein (verbascum) leaf but doesnt have the distictive yellow plume, rather some delicate small white flowers? Must have a look and find out what it is as its worth growing for its lambs lugs foliage!
Cut the lawn at my house today and managed to blag another 20 paing flags for my allotment. My new Afro/Inca keyhole garden will need a LOT of paving!

Lots of weeding. Took down my pea bean and pea wigwams then ripped up the plants because most were dead, thanks to mice biting them off 3" above ground level. Fed lots of bolting lettuce to my chickens. Ripped up a few things that just weren't any good. Only another 3 beds to do.

Spent most of the day at the bee and pollination festival, helping out on the beekeeping stall, but of course, there were stalls selling plants... I got off lightly, only 5 stocks and a bunch of great looking wallflowers, for the princely sum of �2.60 the lot.

Then down the plot to plant them out, as they were bare root.

Did quite a lot of weeding- some bits were getting a little overwhelmed, and we have a site inspection coming up, so I don't want to get in trouble!

Also started getting a bed ready for some impending saffron. They're going to get their own nice little bed, edged in dainty tiles. I didn't get it done today as it started spitting rain and besides, it was dinner time, but it should be finished tomorrow, ready for the new arrivals!

Weeded my Japanese onion bed - hard to tell which is onion and which is grass

Tried tracing which squash was connected to which plant - gave up.

Puled out some of the toms as they've finished - still a couple of plants with a few fruit on - then there’s the next generation just starting to ripen so 4 new plants full of tomatoes to wait to ripen.

Gave some of the strawberries a haircut. Some of the healthier looking runners I stuck underneath the raspberries and fruit trees - If they don't take I've lost nothing, if they take I've got more strawberries. I've also got a few I pegged down in pots a couple of weeks ago.

Jiggled my sweetcorn a bit - looks like the cobs have taken just have to wait till they're ready.

Picked a Small Sugar pumpkin by mistake nudged it a little and off it came.
