  • Monkey Nut Challenge!

Ok guys, who's up for a challenge. I'm sure after Christmad we can muster up a handful of uneaten Monkey Nuts. I plan on sowing some on New Years Day, growing them on indoors then in the Greenhouse............Please don't let me be the only Nutter...........

      I have found this....

How to Grow Peanuts (with Pictures) - wikiHow

      And this.....

National Peanut Board How to Grow Peanuts In Your Own Garden

But can't seem to find out the viability time of the nut.
I bought some a couple of years ago to decorate a wreath and have a few left.
If the nuts are viable I'll join you too!

      Very pretty leaves!

I would do but non of us eat monkey nuts so can't really justify to the OH the reason I'd need to buy a full bag just to see if I can grow them.

Will they grow or have they been 'treated' not to?

Been wanting to try these for ages so why not, just remind us.
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

There's only one way to find out. But I Don't think they will be treated.

                      mmmmm....homemade peanut butter!

                      I'm in!

and to get us all in the mood.....

                      Super quick cheats chicken satay

put 2 teaspoons each of ground ginger, cumin, coriander and tumeric in a bowl.
Add some diced chicken and a glug of oil.
mix and leave in the fridge for a bit.

                      When you're ready for dinner...
                      Fry off your chicken.

Put half a jar of peanut butter in a saucepan with half a jar of water.
Add more of the same spice mix as you did for the chicken but instead of oil, add a glug of soy sauce.
heat gently, stirring occasionally to make a thick sauce.

Put chicken into sauce to finish cooking through, serve with rice and salad or with noodles.

Not one for me I'm afraid - my sunny areas are far too valuable to use for an experiment with a crop that I can take or leave at best.

If they are treated then it'd only be on the hard outer shell.

The link I put up says don't use the ones already out of their shells as they dry out...freshly open them yourself- so if they have been sprayed, I doubt anything will have got inside?
