Longue shallot sets

Has anyone grown these,plus am i correct in thinking that they will split into more as with regular shallots,or are they the type that only grows from seed,as onions do,I have been goggling,would suggest yes,but i have a nagging thought as to when i planted some banana ones,just to go to seed,I picked a 1kg net bag up of them,thanks in hope all.

If you bought seed shallots they should split but as you say Banana shallots only grow from seed.

thankyou MOM,i saw them in costco and thought mm,will plant them out,then i started to wonder what had i done,according to a goggle i think i might be alright,they are from FRANCE,

There seem to be several varieties of "longue" shallot. I grew "Longor" from sets this year which did indeed split into six or so. They are about the same size as the round ones but obviously longer and thinner. Confusingly I've seen some of these classes as banana shallots, which as Roitelet said, need to be grown from seed. I also thought true banana shallots are quite a bit bigger than the standard shallot. Or perhaps it was just mine!

This is them,cut one open and it is a redish purple tinge on some parts,have shown the rule as a guide to size

They don't look like Banana Shallots so you could be OK.

Longue is not a variety LD, it just means long so you may be in with a chance if indeed they are just long Shallots & not Banana Shallots.

Thanks for helping me out all,i thought the same roitelet,the banana ones i had a few year ago,were longer and thinner,i shall chance my luck with these,thanks again all.
