I let two self-seeders grow, and thought they were going to face my way as their heads started to drop from horizontal to vertical, but no, they've turned to face the morning sun, and that's how they've stayed.....facing the neighbours.

I think if those great things could turn their heads round it would be rather like the exorcist. They do make a very poor attempt at turning, at best I get a side view. No leg pulling here VC, gardening is serious.Originally posted by veggiechicken View PostI thought their heads turned to follow the sun. Are your neighbours on your east side, Bill? Because I read somewhere that sunflowers only turn to follow the sun when they are young, but as they mature they stop turning and constantly face eastwards. I've been curious to know if it's true. I must remember to check next time I pass a field of sunflowers. They are a common crop in Slovakia.

Yes they face east, they get the morning sun then it dissapears behind a tree for an hour, a bit more sun at midday then behind another tree for a couple of hours, finaly sun from the west for a few hours. I think they must be confused.Originally posted by Zelenina View PostAre your neighbours on your east side, Bill?
