Do my swedes look ok to you?

I've never grown swede before, so this is all rather exciting! But I'm not sure how they're doing - would you mind taking a look at the pics and telling me if they're okay?



We have a major flea beetle problem on plot 1B, but they seem to be holding up. They developed a few pale yellow patches on their leaves almost overnight a week or so ago, which I think is the early stages of one mould or other. I cut back the overhanging leaves of the potatoes next door and they seem better for it.

Yes, I know they need weeding. If they're very lucky swedes they might get attended to today, but it's another bed's turn first...

Well, I've never managed to get swede that far as our flea beetles will kill young plants in a matter of hours, so I'd say they look great
They don't look as if they are bolting and if they are like other brassicas the older leaves do go yellow and drop off.
And I've seen weedier patches too, mostly my own
A swede expert will be along soon, I'm sure.

Aww, thanks! I think I got lucky with the flea beetle - some radishes were germinating at the same time as the swede on the next door bed, so they got hammered and the flea beetle only seem to have noticed the swede the last couple of weeks. I'll remember to companion plant with radish again next year!

Much better than mine, Flea beetles are devastating mine . I think that the yellowing curled patches on my brassicas are aphids.

Similar to my own crop which are fine as far as I am concerned!

Yep, looking good. Swede are a long term crop & seem to take forever to reach a size worth picking.

Can you maybe put up a pic of the leaves with the yellow blotches. Swedes are a bit prone to mildew and that's what it could be.

I've never had much success with swedes despite having an agricultural upbringing. What is really galling is that an old worthy on our allotment site, a mere woman, grows hoooge swedes every year and says she does nothing special with them .
