Peas going abysmal

I have sowed Bingo peas which are suppose to be an abundant cropper and able to thrive in containers. Utter hogwash ! Mine were sown weeks ago and look at them. pathetic with only a few pods, good though they were.

I have them growing up old blackcurrant cuttings for support, as well as canes but the old cuttings seem to have sprouted leaves and are still alive months on. Bizarre.

I would forget the peas and keep the blackcurrants. At least the fruit is a year in year out treat!

Nice to see you're having at least some success Marb, maybe your garden is more suited to fruit than veg

If in doubt you could always have a go at my type of gardening!

Its called the 'shove everything everywhere' approach and see what happens.

For instance I have ginger in a large planter sharing its space with a pineapple.

So if the blackcurrants have rooted, are they now taking food/water from the peas? Bonus blackcurrant plants

How long have they been in the container?
How big is it?
How often do they get food/water?
Are they in shade/sun?
Virus?
Weevils in the soil?
I find peas really difficult to grow even in open ground - mangetout may crop for ten days but peas only a week.

People have responded to your original query which made no mention that you had problems with pea growing other than those in the attached picture, it may have helped if you had attached a picture to this post showing the current condition of these plants, or even slightly reword it ....... I also have peas in a container with new compost which also have poor growth ...... Also are we to take it that the plants in the original post are not in new compost ? could they also have along with compost some of the horse poo you mentioned in a previous post ?

I bought Bingo peas a few years ago for my Mum but she never got around to growing them so I sowed them this year and I only got a pathetic stem with one or two flowers on it. I'm totally new to gardening however my broadbean and Bachelor's marrowfat peas (yes the type you buy for adding to soups and stews) are doing well. Everything is growing in pots because I don't have enough raised beds.

I do fear it might be a bad year for peas and mangetout for that fact. Anyone feel free to correct me, but none of mine are their usual selves and I have some new ones that aren't doing what they should. The first few planted out I thought it was due to birds taking the tips out. However, I have 3 climbing varieties that have all stopped at around 2-3 ft and others just being a bit hit and miss

I think you will find I uploaded 2 x images of both plantings of peas, some in the pot (with new compost) and some in the soil so not sure why you got your wires crossed. Anyway, no horse manure at all for either (which was all removed anyway).

I think you will find I uploaded 2 x images of both plantings of peas, some in the pot (with new compost) and some in the soil so not sure why you got your wires crossed. Anyway, no horse manure at all for either (which was all removed anyway).

I assumed that both lots of peas were in pots - and you haven't mentioned what medium they were planted in until now.
So add me to the "wires crossed" list too

I never have any joy with peas, I sow loads and never get enough for a meal so I have given up There are some things that I just don't seem to have any success with, peas, broad beans (that OH absolutely loves) and carrots to name but a few. Parsnips, sweetcorn and potimarron squash, however I always have success with. For me, I just think that some things are just not destined to grow in my garden.
