I'd be tempted to dig up one if they're in bad shape. You might be lucky and have a bulb.

I'd still let them die down before digging up. Last year mine managed to struggle on until late June before giving up and they gave me a respectable entry in the virtual show. This year they seem to be fighting the rust rather better, maybe because I gave them a handful of growmore a few weeks ago and I'm watering them more than I did last year.

Love the Vine! Totally different answers!

I thought too much watering had added to the rust problem? No?

It is still standing, looking very orange though, maybe I'll dig up one plant mane see what the bulb is like.

What can safely go in the bed after? Any thoughts?

        Thanks

My 200+ garlic plants all have rust. Grown a lot more plants than I did last year as we use so much of it, but they're not especially crowded. I'm not particularly worried because our leeks got really bad rust last year and we still had leeks up to 2 inches in diameter, so I'm hoping with a bit of TLC the garlic will be OK in the ground until lifting time at the end of June / early July
          Are y'oroight booy?
