I have a king-sized one as well with a SUPER-KING duvet!!!!!!!!! But in my garden I have 2 4x4m beds (patches) and 2 5x4m beds (patches). Very nicely workable as I use bados (long tiles) as stepping stones so that I do not compress the soil too much.

My suggestion: Build a shed with the wood and do your gardening in the ground.

I have had 3 and 4 feet beds and I'm with snadger the wider it gets the harder it is to keep without treading on it. At home I have a six foot bed 6" for me, 6" gap and 5 foot for the OH. I find a duvet is something I'm allowed to borrow but have to give back halfway through the night.

My beds are 4 feet 6 inches wide and it's just a tiny bit wide to comfortably reach into the middle. But I find I'm mostly planting either 2 or 4 things across the width, so it works okay: there's nothing planted in the exact centre.

I like traditional. Rows of veg perfectly in line. No wood or slabs for slugs to hide under.

My real beds a king size but I have to share my outdoor beds are mine 4ft wide un-raised with quarry tiles for paths.

4 feet wide here. I hate rows ... all that veg coming to maturity all-at-once (fine for long-harvest crops, like Beans of course), so I grow a patch-work of 4 Cauliflowers (every 14 days) and so on.

I did that originally. Had open beds without surrounds then added surrounds whenever I could scrounge surround material. Problem is, I added them to the OUTSIDE of the beds which made it too far to reach. Soon found the error of my ways though and my beds are 4 foot or less, now INCLUSIVE of surround material!
