flower on rhubarb

hi today at the plot i noticed a large flower bud developing on my rhubarb ? checked it out in a gardening book it says it can weaken the plant but not harm it to much .last year the same plant was a mess got nothing off it .it now looks ok any ideas

I snap off the flower buds as soon as i see them..

I would agree with VC, 2 years ago I noticed a flower appearing on one of my crowns, I left it and let it do it's thing. Then last year I got absolutely nothing decent from that crown and was considering digging it up and throwing it away but it seems desperate to survive and is putting out some good growth this year. I won't be letting it flower any more...

Today I pulled some flower stalks off my rhubarb plants. I was wondering if you can eat the stalks that the flowers were on, just like normal stalks?

I also saw a website that says you can eat the flowers too. Anyone tried this?
