The Express has a history of printing these sensationalist (and almost always wildly inaccurate) weather predictions. When challenged on why they do this, the paper has freely admitted it's because such stories increase their daily circulation by on average 10% (I think that's right). I'd be of the opinion that if they've exaggerated one item, what else are they stretching the truth on? And then I'd buy a paper with a bit more credibility, so it doesn't seem like a great strategy overall.
I don't rate the BBC forecasts either.

A few years back you could virtually guarantee it would be either some conspiracy theory about Princess Diana OR extreme weather. Nowadays it seems to be weather or health scares
