Mine used to contain kitchen worktop cleaner, I rescued it when it was about to be recycled by Mrs H.

Thanks all. I think maybe this is a downside to watering from below and keeping the compost surface on the dry side. I'll remember next time and do some moistening on this batch.

I have a misting bottle nearby, in case anything needs mistingOriginally posted by Martin H View PostSeveral of my (tiny) seedlings don't seem to be able to throw off the seedcase. They look like tiny drumsticks popping out of the compost.
Anyone know what causes this or how to cure it?
, and use that to soften any retained seed case shells.

Tr to keep the seed shell damp, then the growing/opening cotyledons can discard it, (hopefully).Originally posted by Martin H View PostSeveral of my (tiny) seedlings don't seem to be able to throw off the seedcase. They look like tiny drumsticks popping out of the compost.

Old seeds, hard or very dry seed covering. If you can (very lady like) spit on your fingers and gently rub on the seed case every time you pass your plants tomorrow., it should soften them enough that they come off eventually....Be very gentle you don't want to snap the heads off

Just an update on how things are growing
Tray 1 - under the T5's

Tray 2 - under the T5's

Tray 3 - under the T5's

Tray 4 - under a different CFL grow lamp

I have now run out of room though there are a couple of tomatoes mixed in there which can just go on a windowsill soon

I sowed seeds of Spanish Naga, Scotch Bonnet and (can't remember the other one) about 3 weeks ago. 1 Scotch Bonnet popped up 2 days ago.

Aphids breath through their skin so the solution clogs up their pores and they suffocate.

It sat by the patio doors in my office (south facing) - so generally warm and bright - but there is a bit of a draught that can whistle in between the doors sometimes though it seems not to have bothered it too much.
I recently moved it into the utility room as that patio door space how has the T5 lights for the seedlings. A bit darker there but still on a window. It's only in the last week I noticed a few flowers starting to form.
I really did absolutely nothing to it - not even trimmed it. I meant to but never got round to it - I think I'll just leave it now.
