  • HSL options :)

I know quite a few other people on here subscribe but was very excited to get an e-mail earlier with a link to this year's HSL catalogue attached. All very exciting. Have saved it as a pdf to have a think what I want. Anybody else already decided or tempted by anything interesting?

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I received my email earlier on. Had a quick look and know I'll pick a pea and a tomato (just don't know which variety). First proper day off is Friday so will pop my feet up and decide then. Receiving HSL catalogue always makes me feel Christmassy - don't know why

Had mine too - but the pleasure isn't quite the same as when it was hardcopy
No idea what I'll choose yet.

Couldn't help having another peak. First six choices are Broad Bean Bowland's Beauty, Cabbage Paddy, Kale Shetland, Pea Bullroyd Bean Pea, Squash Shishigatani and Tomato Listers Protection.

I miss the hard copy of tha catalogue as well

After my hard copy getting lost in the post a few years ago I'm preferring the e copy

Me too. Mine didn't arrive two years in a row.

I fancy a determinate tomato and one of the squashes at this stage - but it isn't as exciting as the VSP!!!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

If I'm honest, there's not much leaping out at me and saying Grow me this year
Maybe the Shetland kale and a squash. I seem to have already had in previous years, the ones that appeal.

HSL? well, it's obviously not hue, saturation and lightness so what is it?

It costs £18 per year and you get to chose 6 packets of seeds from the catalogue. You do have to be a member of Garden Organic to join the HSL, though (£33 per year).

                      Link here.

That's a bit too expensive to attract many new members, I think

I'm thinking of dropping out next year and spending my £18 at Real Seeds instead. I know HSL does good work, but it is expensive. If I go to the local seed swap, there will be some HSL seeds on offer. It doesn't seem fair somehow, that I pay £18 while anyone can come in off the street and have more than 6 varieties in exchange for some of their unwanted seeds.
                          Not a rant, more disillusionment

They must have changed things then as the first couple of years I was a member I didn't join Garden Organic as well

VC there is no point two of us picking Shetland Kale as you get loads of seeds, I'll split the packet with you.

Yes the VSP is way too tempting, will need to get your details again VC as I am about to take a peak there.

I have been thinking about cancelling my membership also, as normally I can pick loads of seeds I don't have but this year not so much. I will give it another year though.
