Celery in the rotation plan?

Hi, who can tell me where celery should go in the rotation plan please. I know we eat the stem but where shall I stick it? I have 4 beds - brassicas, legumes, roots and fruiting crops. Thank you

Celery is in the same family as carrots and parsnips and parsley, and there is even a root version of it called celeriac, which is very popular here in Slovakia. So I'd say it belongs in your root section.

But don't forget that radishes, turnips, swedes and kohl rabi are actually brassicas, although they look like roots.

I put Celery and Celeriac in the Roots section too (although I don't grow Celery any more as I was never able to get a good enough crop - I suspect because I never gave the crop enough attention!)

I've had an allotment for the last few months and I have got quite a seed selection but one thing I don't have is celery or celeriac. Reading about celery it seems that it is quite hard work. I'm just wondering if any of you have it as a crop each year, how successful it is and whether or not it's better to just grow celeriac.

According to the guru Dr Hessayon it's in the legumes ("others") section. Also apparently celeriac isn't a root it's technically a swollen stem base.

For what it's worth I've never grown celery but it looks likely that this year we'll get a celeriac (so long as I can keep the badgers away ) and if so that's it I'm not growing it again, it's waaaaaay too fussy and difficult! Although the good lady wife mentioned celery last night as number 1 daughter is now studying catering and they go through celery......

In the rotation plan I use, from a book by Richard Bird it comes under the root section.

Dr Hessayon is good, but there is no one right way of organising rotations, Chippy. And it doesn't really matter whether it's technically a root or not. It's more important to know what it's related to. If bussinspain's root section includes carrots and parsnips, then celery should probably go there too, because it will have similar pests and diseases.

I don't grow celery but I'd put it in the wet section !!

Thank you everyone for your replies. I tend to agree with the majority of you and will put it with the "roots" - carrots, parsnips etc., as they are related. We must keep the relations happy - happy families eh? LOL! I will be sowing the free celery seeds that came with the November issue of GYO. We like celery - salads, slaw, soup, roasted etc.,
