Perennial Brassicas.

Hello, just thought I would post a pic for you nosey lot of some Brassicas now in their 2nd flush............. Instead of lifting them when they were ready earlier in the year, I cut them off at ground to see if they would re-sprout. All the ones you see have re-sprouted. Fingers crossed it may save on the hassle of sowing, pricking out, losing most of them............

I've grown 2nd generation cabbages on stumps of old plants. What I do find is that they start to look tired, probably because I grow mine in pots so they run out of nutrients.

Will be interested to see how yours get on as they get bigger.

I've a feeling winter may kill them off but will keep posted.

I've kept the same cabbages growing in a GH for about 4 years. I cut down the heads as required and leave the stumps to regrow. The stalks become tall and woody and fall over - rooting where they touch the soil - so you end up with a load of cabbages growing along the length of the stalk. If these are too congested, snap one off and root it in water. Result = new young cabbage plant.
I also leave some to flower and self seed in the GH border, transplanting the seedlings elsewhere.

I've tried it with kale too but not broccolis, caulis etc. Be interested to see how you get on BM

I had a PSB plant left in the ground, other stuff to do and the like, and then when I came to pull it up noticed it was sprouting from the bottom. I cut off the part that had gone to seed and left the new sprout which has shot away and produced a lovely crop of large white caterpillars . Will be interesting to see if a) it recovers (looks like it is) and b) whether it produces a crop

Could catch on this perennial brassicas lark...
