Just been down to check the Toms & noticed this on my Mammoth Tom plant. On goggling, the nearest thing I can come up with is a Megabloom. Anyone familiar with it?

Yes, usually on beefsteak toms, I pick them off. -
My Marmand plants seem to produce this type of bloom on the first flower of each truss. Why should you pick them off?Gardening requires a lot of water - most of it in the form of perspiration. Lou Erickson, critic and poetComment

You don't have to pick them off
They do form tomatoes but I find that they often aren't as good, they are several flowers fused together and the fruit generally is much bigger, (fused fruit) takes longer to ripen and are often more mealy with less juice and seeds.

Yes Scarlet, that just about marries what I have read. I usually get them on beef toms, but I've had one on an ailsa craig this year.Comment

I've also had this on my Marmande toms it produce a large ugly looking tom that looked like 3 toms fused together. Still tasted fine though.Location....East Midlands.Comment

The other thing I have found with larger tomatoes is that they grow leaves and side shoots off the flower trusses!Comment
