Could be, but the same plants, on my west facing sitting room windowsill, have been producing more tasty fruit over winter with much less light than there was last spring. I'm baffled really.

I think the amount of water contributes to sweetness too if you withhold water from chillies they get hotter if you withhold it from tomatoes I hear they get sweeter.

Makes sense, although with tomatoes you have to be careful otherwise they get blossom end rot or split if they don't get enough water.
