I wonder if using bark chips from willow would be beneficial as a disease preventative at the base of plants? Might have to perform an extra experiment (wonder if I can get it into my thesis!!).
I'm sure they soaked a load of cut willow in water on Gardeners' World for something or other, I can't remember what it was for. It might have been for rooting compound?????
