Can any beans be planted now?

I chitted a load of varying types of runner/green beans last week and they're ready for planting, however from what I've read most people leave them until at least April, or possibly May.

Am I best to just discard these beans in the compost and wait until next month/may for planting beans?

I will be growing them in yogurt pots in the green house.

It's a tad early to be planting out runners but you could always keep them ticking over in the greenhouse till your last frost has passed.

I would have thought a it early, but maybe ok in GH, but they can't go out till May time, by which time may be too tall, see what others say.

Broad Beans would be OK outside, but Runners and French need frost-free and, preferably, not chilly either - they don't half sulk when they get cold, not to mention snuffing it if there is a frost

I think you will struggle to keep ones that you have sown this early on tick-over until it is warm enough to plant them out, they grow so fast. If any of them are Dwarf French you might manage them in pots.

Plan B would be to keep them in pots for as long as you can, then plant out, and cross your fingers that the Spring is as mild as the Winter was and you are first for miles around to get a crop this year ... but sow some more, as a backup, at the normal time just in case your early ones don't pull through

I wondered that too, I call "runner beans" "green beans" so originally assumed the slash indicated a different term but it would seem not. Think they probably mean French beans in which case too early (as already said) but if it's broadies then fine.

Yip I meant French beans. Yeah it sounds like it's going to be too much effort to keep them in the greenhouse. It's a relief really because now I can concentrate on other things. I'll try sticking the broad beans in! Thanks for the help knowledgeable people!

Oh somebody asked what type I have. I compiled a list of all my seeds last night, here are various beans:

French Bean - Dwarf Tendergreen
Broad Beans - Aquadulce Claudia
Broad Beans - Unknown
Runner Beans - Wisley Magic

my broad beans are around 2 inches tall in the greenhouse in pots. (I am in process of hardening them off).

And there are loads of roots poking out the bottoms.

I am going to plant them out tomorrow, and just keep my fingers crossed!

Our weather is probably worse than yours and my broad beans have been out for weeks and they seem fine. Some of the varieties I am growing are Aqua-Claudia Dulce, Stereo, Manita and Bunyard Exhibition. If transferring outside, remember to harden-off the plants slowly. I don't plant my French beans until mid/end June, but when I lived in England was mid/end May.

Yogurt pots aren't big enough friend. On the allotment the climbing bean plants get 6ft tall at least, and take up 9" of ground space, each.

They won't be able to get enough water in yogurt pots: 10 litre pots are more like it

I assumed the OP meant they were going to sow the chitted seeds in the yoghurt pots which is fine although as you say, they'll need potting on later.
