I too have had cold-preferring plants under my lights for a week or so after germination so they get a wiggle on, and then moved them to cold greenhouse. Onions for example. My Brassicas don't qualify for any special treatment though
I grow my Toms and Cues soft, always have done (along with many people I expect) as I want them to get to flowering and fruiting soon. Plenty of evidence that stressing them does that too, maybe better (although Monty Don, Gardeners World last year, had several in clay pots half filled with compost which he had been assured would stress them into early, and heavy, production and I don't remember it turning out like that for him ...).
