what to grow for your entries this year

I see we have several new members,most are probably not aware of the Virtual Vine Show ( please see Fruit & Vegetable Showcase for previous years ).

Anyone trying any new varieties just for the show this year ? I shall be trialing a pear shaped tomato & a black cucumber along with the more "normal" varieties


Remember to take your camera to the plot & photo everything,you never know it could be a class winner

Are the categories being re-vamped this year BB?..........were there not comments regarding "Heaviest" or "Longest" as it stopped other posts if they didn't reach a previous weight or size.

P.S................I'm awaiting some seeds from China........Purple Tomatoes but I don't think they will be as purple as the picture on the packet........they may be GM.

Categories are to remain the same BM

Heaviest/Longest/Tallest entries will need a dimension

There will still be 1st,2nd & 3rd in each category,remember that points allocated for each position in each category are added up to get the overall winners.
That very point escaped my notice last year as had I entered my heaviest pumpkin it would have gained 3rd & consequently would have given me an outright (instead of joint) second place in the final tally.

I can see where you are coming from.

If peeps want to put a copyright on their piccies they are most welcome .

If peeps decide to cheat then it's a sad state of affairs as, as far as we are aware there are no prizes to be won this year!
Naturally if someone does cheat and are found out, it'll be made public.
Name and shame- simple as that.

Cheating goes against the whole ethos of this site...we are one large extended family!

Im not at all bothered aboit the copyright aspect it was mor the cheaty part i meant..as you say , we are an extended family and yeh name and shame if it does happen...i dont think it will but...........you never know!! Maybe state that every picture should include a cotton bud and a bottletop..just as two random objects that i doubt you will find on the net lol..i am a suspicious creature!!!! (and jealous) personally though i cant wait for it! I doubt i will win anything unless there is a category for most sweetcorn and pumpkins??

How about diversity?

I'm going all out this year with a variety of all sorts of things, can we have a category for greatest variety of etc etc. This year I have a lot of tomatoes and pumpkins a good mix of pots and a few others.

I've never entered before, but then I've never entered a local show either maybe this year is break a duck year. (no ducks will be harmed in my entry, I hasten to add...)

I'm growing 'tromba' squash for the first time although I haven't the foggiest what to do with them if I get a decent harvest!

I've tried that one once, but didn't have much success, I hope you have better luck than me.
