Shallots for Autumn Planting

I bought some shallot sets for autumn planting but for various reasons have not yet planted them. I could (a) keep them until the spring and plant them then (b) plant them in modules in the greenhouse .... and then transplant them to the plot in Spring (do shallots mind being transplanted?) or (c) risk planting them at the plot even though it is a bit cool now. If I am going to do the latter it will probably be tomorrow. Any advice welcomed.

Divide you shallots into three and try all your methods, the results would be interesting. Failing that I would plant them out now, the worst would be you having to buy some more in the spring, the best would be you becoming and international shallot barron.

Thank you Bill, that is actually a very good idea! I had always visualised myself as an international jam and pickle magnate, but growing my own shallots to go in the pickles is perfect synergy.

I've only every planted mine out in Feb for red ones and March for brown ones .....

Being not the best at remembering things,my onions go in at the same time as garlic which is on the shortest day (there are awlways loads of reminders about that

November is still fine for planting out shallots! especially as we have hade a pretty mild Autumn up to press!

But I wouldn't hang about much longer!
