coriander and parsley

Hi guys and girls,

Was wondering where is the best place to regrow coriander and parsley I've bought some form the shops already grown but need to put it somewhere outside where it can grow fast again as we go through loads in this house, any tips full sun part sun shaded areas?

My coriander does well in full sun, not tried it in the shade, although it's been happy enough amongst the brassicas under debris netting this summer. I've only had one parsley grow so far, in the tunnel, full sun, very hot - but apparently it normally prefers cool and shady? Mine reached over 5 foot in the end and has been severely chopped now... The coriander also grew taller than I expected, maybe 3 or 4 feet (I'm a bit vague about size, sorry!). Not sure how winter hardy they are though.

I find that coriander really doesn't like to be transplanted ~ it does best if sown direct. Even then, it usually bolts as soon as it comes up

The coriander? Yes, they all flowered - I always forget to pick the leaves when the plants are small, and the bees seem to like the flowers so I leave the plants to get on with it . It's the flowers that get so tall. Oh, and they were all transplanted... of course as I keep getting told, the French don't like to follow rules - must apply to french plants too

Never grown parsley (we don't particularly like it), but always grow coriander in semi-shade. Does ok, but I have found that if it gets too warm it's quick to bolt. Trial and error.

I've grown (and currently have) Parsley, coriander, thyme, and basil from tesco fresh herb pots

all planted in full sun .... Parsley, corriander and thyme all took straightaway and are all growing superb and rapid.... If you plant parsley in full sun, just water a bit more often

Corriander needs to be kept short or else it starts bolting

basil was another story ..... I planted 2 pots from Tesco .... They both struggled, shrivelled, then took .... They are doing ok now but are spidly (many of the stems from shop bough parsley shrivelled and died, and I assume thats because they were grown hydroponically and with lights) .... The basil I bought from a garden centre performed much better

I always plant mine in big pots near the kitchen door - I hate running up the garden when i'm in the middle of cooking!

I eat as much coriander before it bolts, then leave it to go crazy as the bees love it, then it seeds - which I collect. It also self seeds where it's planted and starts growing again around September time, so I leave that, it doesn't usually bolt, we try and get as much as we can before Autumn sets in and it gets cold and everything dies.
