Preparation 500 involves stuffing cow horns with cow manure, burying them in winter, digging them up in spring, mixing the reputedly transformed and "sweet smelling" dung with water for one hour (reversing the stirring direction three times a minute to get the right combination of "vortex and order") and sprinkling the result on farm fields at the rate of an ounce of manure per acre.

Anyone else having problems with a disordered vortex
Damn, I knew I was doing something wrong. It's 3!!! Times a minute I need to stir.

I was very amused by the sentence likening biodynamics to witchcraft! As a scientist I do find homeopathy rather hard to believe but I think likening it all to witchcraft might be a little over the top!! Where does one buy a cows horn of manure these days anyway...??!
If it ain't broke...fix it til it is!

Can't speak for them all, but :

MYTH 2 Lighten clay by adding sand :

Tried it and grew grand carrots and parsnips a couple of years running.

        --------------------------------------------

MYTH 3 Young trees should be staked (Not, they say)

Tried it - did not stake and have a beautifully-profiled bendy apple tree.

        ----------------------------------------------------
MYTH 7 Gravel helps containers to drain

Tried it and it works very well - as does filling the ends of the pots with heavy clay.

        -----------------------------------------------------
        MYTH 9 Natural is safer

I think this is self-evident, as witness the current EU discussion re bees and certain types of fertiliser.

        ----------------------------------------------------

The "old people" didn't know everything but they learned to observe well and from that took on board some practices that stood them in good stead (and still do).
My hopes are not always realized but I always hope (Ovid)

And what, exactly, is wrong with witchcraft?

To me it reads like a commissioned 'can you just whip summat up?' article, no conviction or proper research.
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

But the naysayers that deride are always the ones that don't try it before dismissing it.

And here I just thought the whirling vortex of witch wind was the missus in nesting mode....

Where do they dig nutters like this up?
Never test the depth of the water with both feet

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
