Never grown carrots - so help needed please :)

    I leave the school carrots to go to seed every year (mostly because they do it in the school holidays when I'm not there to pull them up). They have produced lots of very good, free, carrots for us.

    The easiest way is to brush the soil away from the shoulders and see how big it is. It's worth pulling when it's at least an inch in diameter.
    If smaller, put the soil back and leave it to grow a bit more

      I've had no joy this year - I've had three seedlings from a whole packet! I'll try again next year as this is my first attempt. I'm really grateful for all the advice posted on this thread. I might see if anyone else on my site has been successful with carrots in the ground, otherwise I'll be investing in some planters/flower buckets and sowing in those
