we havent seen any up here, they would have problems taking off covered in the now summer ice, planes cant fly with ice on their wings,so i presume that also applies to butterflies as well,or are these tougher than we thought, might have to patrol plot with a baseball bat and shin pads..

True, seed companies tend to list them as "hardy annuals" but they don't like real frost so on the edge.... I have two lots looking quite perky in an unheated greenhouse at the moment (and it hasn't fallen below zero last 2 days, what a surprise....) though even May can spring surprises so here's hoping....Originally posted by Two_Sheds View PostIt's a bit early to be sowing nasturtiums. It's our local Gardeners' Association Spring Show tonight: specialist daffs and tulips, ha! Not from me it isn't, haven't seen a tulip yet, will scout around for some sorry daffs. I usually see better ones than mine in gardens when walking up to the show and wonder if I might do a swop?
Bought some Limnanthes seed yesterday, hope Cabbage Whites like "Poached Egg Spanish Omelette Mixed" - should do, has an RHS "Perfect for Pollinators" award, whatever next? Awful names, will I need to put out Tomato Ketchup and Daddies?

Me to LG last Saturday. A big fat bumble bee came and sat on my arm for a few seconds whilst I was sowing seed into trays. Lovely. Can't say the same for Cabbage Whites, but I have my tennis racquet at the ready.Originally posted by lettucegrow! View PostNo butterflies yet but I did see my first bee yesterday. Made me smile, springs coming !Granny on the Game in Sheffield
