Germinating in plastic bags

Somewhere I've read about starting large seeds like peas and beans in a plastic bag of soil, in the airing cupboard. The theory being that you can see when the seeds start to sprout/root and they are large enough to pick out individually and pot up.
Caveat - I've never tried this!!
Taking this one step further, could one put a chitted potato into a plastic bag, and grow it on indoors until rooted, then slit the bag and plant the contents into a pot?
I'm just trying to think of ways to grow early potatoes!!

The chits need to be completely covered which may be difficult in a bag, can you not bring them on in pots?

Yes, BM, I could put them in pots, but a box full of plastic bags, with a potato in each, would take up less room in the house - and I could hide them in a cupboard!!

Anything is worth a try VC,if you have the room,me,i sowed a few home saved broadie seeds this afternoon,only mine are in seed trays,we do not own an airing cupboard,when you think about it,things like peas and beans are bound to chit,they will do so if,soak for 1 night,then just rinse every day to keep fresh,until they chit,then plant,no compost required,ref the spudz,if they do grow as you would like,would it set them back when re planting them,thus no real time saved,why not try a pot or two inside,then put outside when weather permits,or green house,just a thought,

I'd make room in a cupboard Lottie. Its easy, you just throw the contents out onto the floor You could put 6 or so plastic bags, each containing some soil and a potato into a flower bucket. Keep that in the house somewhere warm for a couple of weeks, then pot them on into pots of their own. That's my theory anyway
