Somewhere I've read about starting large seeds like peas and beans in a plastic bag of soil, in the airing cupboard. The theory being that you can see when the seeds start to sprout/root and they are large enough to pick out individually and pot up.
Caveat - I've never tried this!!
Taking this one step further, could one put a chitted potato into a plastic bag, and grow it on indoors until rooted, then slit the bag and plant the contents into a pot?
I'm just trying to think of ways to grow early potatoes!!

You could put 6 or so plastic bags, each containing some soil and a potato into a flower bucket. Keep that in the house somewhere warm for a couple of weeks, then pot them on into pots of their own. That's my theory anyway
