I'm going to try the seeds donated by Virginveggrower and try and grow us both some capers! Everything else will be a challenge this year as it's a new garden with new (terrible clay-y) soil, new growing conditions, so all my previous heroes and easy-peasy seedlings will all be a a challenge come 2013 or maybe....possibly

Celeriac for me too cos mine are apple sized. So reading the seed packet it says sow early for decent size so I did ......yesterday
Also Spring onions and radish .....other stuff that didn't do so well was either the weather or the snugs cos I've not had a problem in other years..

Courgettes! Why does everyone talk about gluts of them when I'm lucky if I have one per plant - actually I'm lucky if I have a plant that survives to flower.............

Courgettes for me too. It was just too cold here last year. I'm hoping we will have the polytunnel up by the time the courgettes are ready to go out. If not, they will will be battling the wind and poor temperatures in 2013.

Courgettes? I'm sure that you've only said that to make me feel good.

Maybe I'm in a prime growing area here in the Midlands - and I certainly can't claim exceptional green fingers - but despite cutting back on the number of seeds sown each year in order to avoid gluts, I still end up eating courgettes continually for each meal (inc. breakfast!) for the best part of 3 months solid.

In fact, one memorable year I had 6 thriving courgette plants (as I had sown 4 seeds (one of each, and a spare, or which all thrived) then 'adopted' a couple of plants) - and the good denizens of the town are still wary of me after my efforts to offload dozens of courgettes to all and sundry.

Don't get me wrong - I am not bragging or complaining in any way whatsoever, and I would happily distribute the excess, but south Wales is a bit of a hike, let alone Orkney or Brittany ..... sorry, girls.

ps full-size shallots, not the marble-sized pickling ones. Have already started them and am told the trick at a later stage is to separate them with a razor blade and grow on separately.... Worth a try?

i am going to have a successful plot this year, weather be damned and intend to grow tomatoes in my greenhouse- my husband WILL finish putting the glass in.

Beetroot. I managed to grow it for the first time ever this year, but the crop wasn't great. I've got a good size crack in the nut shell, but I'm not there yet.
