About 80% of my onions planted as sets last october bolted, not a huge problem, they still got used but speaking to a farmer who gave me a big sack of onions last week, i'm going to use seed this year.
The onions he gave me were from seed, they were a little later than sets, and a little smaller but seem to bolt less than those grown from sets (this year anyway) and as a result, store better.
im not 100% behinf my theory though!
