We found some white plastic tubing in the electrical department here which slots together so you can make it any length you want - the basic size is 2m, although we've also seen 3m lengths, and you can obviously cut it too. We actually prefer it to the blue water hose stuff to be honest. It costs about a euro for a 2m length, which isn't bad, assuming you can get something similar in the UK - it says 'made in Italy' (in English!) on it, so it's not specifically a French product.

Sarah Raven, in The Great Vegetable Plot, uses arches and/or tunnels for all sorts of stuff. I had a go at it a couple of years ago, but hadn't allowed for what a high wind would do to a 'wall' of dense bean plants...
Make sure it's pretty sturdy whatever you end up doing

I have arches over my path that were inherited from a given up lottie....they are fortified with canes, vertically and horizontally .
My mate has canes with tubing ( like water pipe) forming the arch at the top ...
good for picking cos the beans hang down .......
On mine, one side is runners and frenchies and on t'other side there is cucs.....only just really taking off cos of the snugs but I'll take a piccy .......S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig

im doing the same thing next yr runners beans, sweet peas, bolotti, bought some old style climbing peas that are ment to grow up to 10 ft or so and some climbing beans with borage inbetween, thats the plan whether it works well we shall see
