Calabrese problems

I enjoy Calabrese so have tried to grow about 10 plants on my allotment this year. They started off really strong and started to develop small heads but then some got attacked by pigeons when the netting protection blew off. The rest now look like that have gone to seed (but I'm no expert, they seem to have yellow flower like bits on). What did I do wrong, plant them out to early or can I just blame the weather?

Yep yellow flowers they have bolted. Blame the weather I do!

Cut the flowers off, and if you're lucky the plants may produce sideshoots. Smaller than the original head but tasty.

And if you're unlucky the small side-shoots will also flower in next to no time, like mine did.
Worth a try though.

yeah - sounds like issue I had.

You just need to keep on top of them.

I cut the flowers out when they appear, and in some cases (if the flowers are not all of the head) I just pulledo ff the slowers and stir fried the rest of the stem and small unopened flower heads.

Mine are on the compost heap . I decided to use the space for winter veg instead and hope we don't drop to -17deg again!!
