Tomatoes - as they become ripe!

It's the easiest thing in the world: next ripe one you get, squish the seeds out onto a piece of kitchen towel. Let it dry, then pop it into an envelope until sowing time (Feb-Mar).

For sowing, just tear the kitchen towel into pieces and plant each piece

I know the theory behind saving tomato seeds, but I didn't want to rely upon it in case I messed it up somehow.

I was hoping to be able to also buy a pack of the same variety so I can compare and contrast the two different sources.

I'm so jealous! I've had two minibel from the stayput. All my outdoor tomatoes are showing no signs at all of ripening.

So far Shirley, Sungold, Sweet Million, and Sun Baby has been ripening at various speeds since June. Below is a pic of Alicante which has just been sitting there, laden with green fruit. It has now decided to ripen, but only the smaller fruits are turning colour. The bigger ones are still green. That's going on?

I had an Ailsa Craig tomato for lunch today - lovely! First outside tomato. I have San Marzano the size of walnuts - looking pretty ugly. Only one looks plump. My moneymaker and black truffle are the size of peas. I have a unnamed bush tomato covered in flowers. Usually my bush tomatoes are the first to appear but not this year.

I've had a look (now the rain's stopped) and there are loads on the Ildi Grapes outside, but all are green.

I had one Shirley (or a bite of one) and thought it was disgusting. Not sweet at all Another one that I left in the porch to ripen. Got 3 that are blushing on the vine so fingers crossed they taste nicer.

Salt Spring Surprise!! And what a surprise Left unattended for a week in the greenhouse without any TLC - and they obviously didn't miss me one bit!

The individual tomato weights 6oz and soon will disappear My first tomato of the year and its absolutely covered in green stuff and smells glorious. I'm soooo Happy (Thanks to VVG)

Tomatoberry is in the lead .....inside and out, closely followed by Kenilworth St. George ,then its Snow White , Poire Jaune, Losetto ....Whippersnapper and Millefleur are running neck and neck with everything else trailing behind.......
