Binners I use the bought ones mainly because they compost well and I haven't found slugs to be a problem. Well no more than usual.

you can cover with fleece or mesh instead of using collars.

The only bought ones I have used are made of felt and don't compost well with me. I also find they are very hard and chafe the plant stems sometimes so badly that the plant collapses. That's why I started using carpet underfelt

I cover my brassicas with enviromesh from the start and therefore don't have to worry about flies, butterflies or birds. Slugs can still be an issue but not having anywhere to hide helps to spot them.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
