Luckily the pigeons in our garden seem more interested in pecking at something in the lawn than they are in my brassicas, but I really should get round to netting them before they change their minds.

Oh, and they also seem to like to spend a lot of time s****ing on the kids' swing.

Well they've had a good old munch now. Of course choosing different ones to the cabbage root maggots, just to spread the damage out. I tried netting them after work, but god knows what calculations I did when ordering the nets. They're way too big. I gave up in the end, as the wind wasn't helping and I needed to get ready to go out. Will try again tomorrow, if anything's left. I did water in some Nemasys, which I hope will sort the maggots out.

Luckily they seam more interested in the loose corn in the chicken run than my plot, so far anyway.
But I,ve always got an air rifle if they do peck at my veg it'll be their last peck!!

I caught half a dozen of them scoffing my newly-appeared pea seedlings. Netting went on. Netting blew off. Netting tied on stronger. Wind broke canes. Pushed canes in deeper. Wind broke canes a 2nd time.

I have a patented method for dealing with Pigeons.



Just a shame I can only use it 50ft from the center of a public highway, IE my friends house where he has wild Rabbits trying to beat up his chickens. ( I kid you not the rabbits and chickens fight lol)

Touch wood, I've nevet had a problem with pigeons, but the sparrows are decimating my peas again this year I netted them when first planted but they're tall varieties and as soon as they grew above the netting the sparrows have been at them, and now the wind is getting at them too, they'rein a right old state

I watched two wood pigeons fighting? mating? rampaging? with one another on the next door but one allotment last evening. They weren't eating anything - everything was netted but they did damage to plants, netting and canes before I sent them packing with their wings flapping and claws pulling and tearing at everything. Big b@@@ers they were too. The wood pigeons in my garden at home seem quite tame in comparison.

Well, they well and truly trashed my broccoli, calabrese, cauliflower, kale and quite a lot of radishes. Got nets up now, but not sure if they'll be able to fight back (well, the kale won't, they're gone completely).

I assume it's pigeons, from checking google images for the kind of damage they do, and also a few 'gifts' they left behind (I do at least get quite a lot of pigeon manure to add to my compost).

We get a whole mix in our garden: your standard feral pigeon, wood pigeon, and collared doves.

Bloody P's indeed.. i was down at the Lotte on Tuesday and had to remove the net off some of mt broccoli as they had outgron it, i did a few jobs then had to rush home.. forgetting to put up a new next..

I've been stressing all week, today was the first of me getting down and true enough the pigeons had been at them, not totally stripped, but some damage done. there was also a lot of poo .. how rude!!

I put up a big, much taller net frame, so hopefully they will recover...

My sparrows do this too, clinging onto the nets to get anything they can! They went for the seedlings this year annoyingly, but then they also took advantage of the free nesting I put out for them (my hanging basket liners). On the plus side they are doing a grand job in catching insects (as far as I can tell I don't think they're stripping off growing tips when they are pecking other plants) and have provided much amusement trying to fly off with string ends that are still attached to plants!

We have had a couple of pigeons, but the purple sprouting broccoli planted September last year is still not living up to its name and they are ignoring it. The sparrowhawk also tends to eat 'em.
